A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Vernon, Rapides, Beauregard, Allen, Evangeline, Northern Jasper, Northern Newton, Southern Jasper, and Southern Newton counties from 11 AM to 7 PM CDT Friday, October 9th, with outdoor burning strongly discouraged due to high fire risk.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for portions of our community due to critical fire weather conditions expected Friday. Residents in Vernon, Rapides, Beauregard, Allen, Evangeline, Northern Jasper, Northern Newton, Southern Jasper, and Southern Newton counties are advised that outdoor burning is not recommended. Any fires that develop are expected to catch and spread quickly.
The National Weather Service in Lake Charles, LA, issued the warning at 3:20 PM CDT today, October 8th, effective from 11 AM to 7 PM CDT on Friday, October 9th. This warning is due to a combination of breezy and dry conditions from the outer periphery of Hurricane Isaias and dry fuels.
Conditions include northeast winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph, relative humidity as low as 25 percent, and temperatures up to 91 degrees Fahrenheit. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or will shortly. Strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures contribute to extreme fire behavior. Please refrain from all outdoor burning during this period to prevent wildfires.
