Residents in Coastal Pender and Coastal New Hanover counties should be aware of a Rip Current Statement and a Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service Wilmington NC.

A High Rip Current Risk is in effect through this evening, September 26. Dangerous rip currents are expected, which can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore. If caught in a rip current, the National Weather Service advises to relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim following the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Swim near a lifeguard if possible.

Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 6 AM to 10 AM EDT this morning, September 26. Up to one foot of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. This may impact low-lying roads and locations along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks. Minor coastal flooding is anticipated. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. Residents should check with local officials for any road closures or impacts.
