Dangerous Rip Currents and High Surf Expected for Coastal Pender, New Hanover
A High Rip Current Risk is in effect until 8:00 PM EDT today, October 10, for Coastal Pender and New Hanover, with a High Surf Advisory from 2:00 PM today until 8:00 AM Sunday, October 11.
Coastal Pender and Coastal New Hanover counties are under a High Rip Current Risk until 8:00 PM EDT this evening, October 10. Additionally, a High Surf Advisory is in effect from 2:00 PM EDT this afternoon, October 10, until 8:00 AM EDT Sunday, October 11.
The National Weather Service Wilmington NC has issued this alert, warning of dangerous rip currents and large breaking waves of 4 to 7 feet in the surf zone. These conditions are expected to create dangerous swimming and surfing conditions, as well as localized beach erosion.
Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water. If swimming, do so near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
