FEMA Flood Maps Open House Avon - Farmington River

FEMA Opens Flood Maps for Farmington River Watershed in Avon Event

Federal Emergency Management Agency officials will hold an open house Tuesday, September 22, 2026 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Avon Public Library to discuss updated flood maps for the Farmington River watershed, including Simsbury.

FEMA and state staff will answer questions about how the revised maps affect property owners and residents across Hartford County, particularly Simsbury's historic properties along Route 10 and residential areas near the river corridor. The new classifications determine flood insurance requirements and building regulations for properties in designated flood zones.

The maps take effect November 13, 2026, giving property owners roughly two months after the open house to understand how changes may affect insurance premiums or building permits.

FEMA began the update process in 2018. Simsbury residents unable to attend can find information on FEMA's website for the Farmington River watershed flood map project.
