Volunteers gather at the Herring Run Recreation Area along the Cape Cod Canal. AmeriCorps Cape Cod, a Barnstable County program, led the 25th Annual Canal Clean-Up last Saturday along the Cape Cod Canal in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Together, volunteers collected 603.2 pounds of trash, diverting a substantial amount of debris from harming local waterways and wildlife. AmeriCorps Cape Cod extends sincere thanks to its partner, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and to the generous donors who supported the event, including Stop & Shop, Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters, Trader Joe’s, Hole-in-One, Starbucks, and Cape Cod Bagel. Connecting with the community at the Canal Clean-Up, with partners from the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve sharing education and outreach on protecting our coastal environment. Thank you to all those who came out to take part in this year’s event. It was a beautiful day to connect with our community and environmental partners while making a meaningful impact.
