Adopt Today Adopting a pet is a life-changing experience—for both you and the animal you welcome into your home. At Sumter County Animal Services (SCAS), our adoption program is designed to make the process simple, supportive, and rewarding. Adoption Fees Waived To remove barriers and encourage more families to adopt, all adoptions are free. This means you can focus on providing love and care to your new companion without worrying about upfront costs. Adoption applications are available on site. What's Included with Every Adoption Every animal adopted from SCAS comes with the following: - Microchip for lifetime identification - Spay or neuter surgery to support responsible pet ownership - Up-to-date vaccinations (including rabies) - Health check and shelter support will be provided to help ensure a smooth transition into your home Hours and Availability We make it convenient for families to meet and adopt their new pets: - Adoption appointments: Available 7 days a week, 12 p.m. – 6 p.m., except holidays - Walk-in adoptions: Available Thursday through Monday, 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. Foster to Adopt Option Some animals may not yet be fully ready for adoption due to ongoing medical care, recovery, or other needs. In these cases, they may be placed in a Foster to Adopt arrangement. This allows you to begin caring for the animal right away, with the intent to finalize adoption once they are cleared. How to Adopt - Complete an adoption application for one of the categories listed below - Schedule an appointment to view our animals - View available pets on Petfinder.com Why Adopt from SCAS? When you adopt from Sumter County Animal Services, you're not just gaining a loyal companion—you're also saving a life. Every adoption opens space in the shelter for another animal in need.

CLOSURE NOTICE: The following offices will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2026 The following offices will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2026, in observance of Independence Day! • All Sumter County Board of County Commissioners Offices • Tax Collector (Additionally, this office will be closed on Monday, July 6, 2026.) • Clerk of Court • Property Appraiser • Sheriff's Office Administrative Offices • Sumter County Fire and EMS Administrative Offices • Supervisor of Elections (Additionally, this office will be closed on Monday, July 6, 2026.) • Sumter County Libraries (Additionally, locations will remain closed on Saturday, July 4. Services will resume at all locations on Monday, July 6, 2026.) • Sumter County Transit (Services will resume on Monday, July 6, 2026.) Additional Altered Service to Note: • Citizens Drop-Off Area (Services will be open on Friday, July 3, and closed on Saturday, July 4. Regular hours resume on Tuesday, July 7.)
