Heat Advisory Issued for Bay Area: Extreme Temperatures Expected
A Heat Advisory has been issued for the Bay Area, effective October 1 to October 4, with temperatures expected to reach 103 degrees Fahrenheit and limited overnight recovery.
A Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco CA, effective immediately, October 1, 2026, at 9:43 AM PDT. This advisory will remain in effect until October 4, 2026, at 10:00 PM PDT.
Residents in the Sonoma Coastal Range, North Bay Interior Mountains, San Francisco Bay Shoreline, East Bay Interior Valleys, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley (including San Jose), Eastern Santa Clara Hills, East Bay Hills, Southern Salinas Valley/Arroyo Seco and Lake San Antonio, Santa Lucia Mountains and Los Padres National Forest, and Mountains of San Benito County and Interior Monterey County (including Pinnacles National Park) should prepare for extreme heat.
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s to near 103 degrees Fahrenheit. Additionally, overnight lows in higher elevations will be mild, ranging from the upper 60s to mid-70s, limiting crucial overnight recovery. This level of heat can impact individuals without effective cooling and adequate hydration, potentially straining health systems and heat-sensitive industries.
The NWS advises critical hydration. Drink water consistently and consider providing water to vulnerable individuals. When outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours. Seek immediate action if experiencing symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
