A Heat Advisory is in effect until Thursday, October 8, at 10:00 PM PDT, with dangerously hot conditions from the mid-90s to near 105 degrees expected across a wide area; residents are urged to hydrate, limit outdoor activity, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
A Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service San Francisco CA, in effect immediately until Thursday, October 8, at 10:00 PM PDT. Residents across a wide region are urged to take precautions against dangerously hot conditions.
Maximum temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s to near 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Mild overnight temperatures and weak onshore flow will offer limited relief from the heat. This heat event impacts the Sonoma Coastal Range, North Bay Interior Mountains and Valleys, San Francisco Bay Shoreline, East Bay Interior Valleys and Hills, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley (including San Jose) and Eastern Hills, Southern Salinas Valley/Arroyo Seco and Lake San Antonio, Santa Lucia Mountains and Los Padres National Forest, and Mountains of San Benito County and Interior Monterey County (including Pinnacles National Park).
This level of heat can affect anyone without effective cooling or adequate hydration, potentially impacting local health systems, heat-sensitive industries, and infrastructure. Residents must prioritize hydration by drinking plenty of water. Check on vulnerable individuals and offer water if possible.
When outdoors, wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. Be aware of heat exhaustion and heat stroke symptoms and take immediate action if experienced. Crucially, never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, as interior temperatures can become lethal within minutes.
