Rapper William Leonard Roberts, known as Rick Ross, faces a felony battery by strangulation charge and a misdemeanor battery count. The charges stem from an alleged incident on August 28 involving his ex-girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick. Kendrick filed a report with the Miami Beach Police Department on September 29, detailing allegations of physical abuse she previously posted on social media.
According to the arrest report, Roberts became angry after Kendrick was tagged in an Instagram photo, accusing her of lying and slapping her. Kendrick claims Roberts then accused her of infidelity, pursued her around their home, and struck her each time she denied the accusation. The report states Roberts allegedly grabbed Kendrick's hoodie, twisting it and choking her until she could not breathe. He also reportedly grabbed her ponytail, slammed her into a wall, leaving her with a "busted lip," and attempted to spray her with a shower head before she escaped.
Roberts surrendered to police Thursday. His attorney, Bradley Horenstein, denied the allegations, stating, "The allegations are false. He’s innocent. Everything is going to come out." Horenstein added, "We just ask that you allow the process to play out before rushing to judgment, because the truth will come in."
Roberts' bond was set at $5,000. He must stay away from Kendrick, with restrictions including no contact through third parties, social media, or other means. His arraignment is scheduled for October 22.
