HBO has greenlit a one-hour drama series based on Kevin Kwan's bestselling novels, reuniting original cast members Constance Wu, Henry Golding, and Ronny Chieng. Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh will also return in a recurring role.
The series, announced Thursday, October 9, 2026, continues the story eight years after the 2018 film's release. Showrunner and executive producer Adele Lim, who co-wrote the film, stated the series will offer eight episodes to explore Kwan's books.
The original film followed Rachel Chu, an economics professor who discovered her boyfriend Nick Young's family's immense wealth in Singapore. The movie grossed $239 million worldwide and earned acclaim for its representation.
Director Jon M. Chu, who will co-executive produce the series with Lim, Kwan, Nina Jacobson, and Brad Simpson, said, "Eight years ago, 'Crazy Rich Asians' changed my life, and I got to make it with the most creative and hilarious group of people I've ever known." Production for the new series is scheduled to begin in 2027.
