Cumberland County Gas Pump Inspections Ensure Accuracy
Cumberland County Weights & Measures inspects every gasoline pump in the county each year to ensure they dispense the correct amount of fuel.
The agency does not set gas prices, which market conditions and individual retailers control. But inspectors verify pump accuracy so customers receive what they pay for. They also test underground storage tanks for water contamination and check octane levels on different gasoline grades.
When inspectors find violations, they can fine retailers or shut down pumps until problems are corrected.
Residents with concerns about fuel sales can file a complaint through the Cumberland County website or call Weights & Measures at (856) 453-2203.
