Downtown One-Way Street Improvements

The City of Mount Dora will begin construction to convert portions of Alexander Street, Baker Street and Tremain Street to one-way traffic as part of an effort to improve traffic circulation, emergency vehicle access, and parking capacity downtown. Construction is scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 1, on Alexander Street, with work generally taking place Monday through Thursday. To minimize impacts to downtown businesses, residents and visitors, construction will progress one street at a time. Each street will reopen under its new one-way traffic pattern as work on that street is completed. The project will establish the following traffic patterns: • Alexander Street: Southbound from 5th Avenue to 4th Avenue; construction begins September 1. • Baker Street: Southbound from 5th Avenue to 3rd Avenue; construction begins September 7. • Tremain Street: Northbound from 3rd Avenue to 5th Avenue; construction begins September 14. The City initially explored adding angled parking downtown to increase parking capacity. During the engineering review, it was determined that angled parking was not feasible due to the width of the streets. The resulting one-way design will improve circulation and emergency vehicle access while creating additional downtown parking spaces. This approach is consistent with the City’s Downtown CRA Parking Studies Update, which emphasized better use of the existing parking supply, and advances the FY 2025-2030 Strategic Plan objective to implement parking management strategies and increase downtown parking inventory. Motorists should follow posted detour and traffic signage and allow additional travel time when traveling through active construction areas. Construction dates are approximate and may change due to weather or other unforeseen conditions. The overall project is anticipated to be completed in September.
