A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Hale County, including Greensboro and Moundville, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Birmingham AL, effective immediately. Residents must move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

The warning, issued at 9:56 PM CDT on October 9, is in effect until 6:00 AM CDT on October 10. Winds are forecast to be 10-20 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and mobile homes, broken tree limbs, some downed trees, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are expected, especially on bridges.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain possible, and locally higher amounts. The NWS warns of the potential for major flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams could overflow, and floodwaters may enter structures, making roads dangerous and potentially causing closures or washouts. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information and preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
