Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Hale County: Prepare Now!
Hale County is under a Tropical Storm Watch, with potential for damaging winds, moderate flooding, and a few tornadoes within the next 48 hours; residents should finalize preparations now.
HALE COUNTY, AL – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Hale County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 10:05 AM CDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. This means tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours.
Residents in Greensboro and Moundville should finalize preparations before hazardous winds begin. Peak winds are forecast to be 20-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs, minor road obstructions, and scattered power outages.
Moderate flooding is also a significant concern, with 2-4 inches of rain forecast and localized higher amounts. Emergency plans should account for potential flooding, evacuations, and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and low-lying areas could experience rapid inundation. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
A few tornadoes are also possible. If your shelter is vulnerable, prepare to relocate to a safer location before hazardous weather arrives. If a tornado warning is issued, shelter quickly. This watch expires October 8 at 6:15 PM UTC. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
