Hale County residents, especially those in Greensboro and Moundville, are under a Tropical Storm Watch issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective tonight, October 8, 2026, at 7:10 PM CDT. This watch is set to expire tomorrow, October 9, 2026, at 3:15 AM UTC.

The NWS advises immediate preparations for hazardous winds and moderate flooding. Wind gusts up to 45 mph are expected, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Residents should complete efforts to protect property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain predicted, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate rainfall flooding is anticipated, potentially leading to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and small streams could overflow. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Tornadoes are not expected at this time.
