Herriman Water System Shifts to Local Wells; Residents May Notice Harder Water

Seasonal Water Source Change As warmer weather arrives and water demand increases, Herriman has begun transitioning to greater use of local well water as part of the city’s water system. During the winter months, the system relies more heavily on Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District water, which is typically softer. With the seasonal shift, residents may begin to notice a change in water hardness. Water from local wells contains higher levels of naturally occurring minerals such as calcium and magnesium, making it harder than winter water sources. This can result in spotting on dishes, buildup in appliances, and reduced efficiency of soaps and detergents. These changes are a normal part of the seasonal water cycle in Herriman. Residents who use water softeners may want to check and adjust their settings to maintain their preferred water quality. Making small adjustments can help reduce the effects of harder water as the system transitions through the summer months.

Herriman Main Street Gets Water-Efficient Landscaping Upgrade

Waterwise Improvements on Herriman Main Street A recent landscaping project along Main Street is helping Herriman conserve water while enhancing the appearance and long-term sustainability of the corridor. Approximately 73,000 square feet of grass in the roadway medians was replaced with water-efficient rock mulch planter beds, and the irrigation system was upgraded from traditional spray irrigation to drip irrigation. The new landscaping is expected to use about 30% less water than the previous grass areas. In addition to reducing water consumption, the project helps address a long-standing issue where spray irrigation could send water onto nearby roadways due to wind drift and runoff. By delivering water directly to landscaped areas, the new drip system helps keep water off the asphalt, which may contribute to extending the life of the roadway. The project was supported in part through regional water conservation partnerships. Approximately 30% of the project cost was funded through a grant from the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District and Salt Lake County’s Water Conservation and Land Use Municipal Partnership Program, which assists cities in converting spray-irrigated grass areas to more water-efficient landscaping.

Wide Hollow Trailhead Opens with New Herriman Incline

" Wide Hollow Trailhead Officially Opens Herriman City recently celebrated the opening of the Wide Hollow Trailhead with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by community partners, project supporters, and local leaders. Located near 6602 W Wide Hollow Drive, the new trailhead provides improved access to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail and expands recreational opportunities in Herriman’s southern hills. The project includes parking for approximately 70 vehicles, an on-site restroom facility, and connections to the surrounding trail network. One of the trailhead’s most popular features is the new Herriman Incline, a staircase consisting of 234 timber steps that climb approximately 160 vertical feet. Since opening, the incline has quickly become a destination for residents looking for a challenging workout and scenic views. The Wide Hollow Trailhead is the result of years of planning and collaboration. Herriman City extends its appreciation to Salt Lake County, whose grant funding helped make the project possible. The new facility will help improve trail access, reduce congestion at other trailheads, and provide another way for residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors in Herriman.  "
