United States and Iran Exchange Attacks, Jeopardizing Ceasefire

Why it matters locally: While the immediate impact of international geopolitical events like these is often felt at the federal level, disruptions to global oil markets or potential shifts in U.S. foreign policy could indirectly affect North Carolina's economy and military installations present in the state.

WASHINGTON – The United States and Iran engaged in new attacks overnight and into Thursday. These actions marked an escalation in exchanges between the two nations. President Donald Trump indicated the ceasefire agreement was "over" prior to the latest attacks. His statement came as both sides conducted operations against targets. Details regarding the specific nature and targets of these recent attacks remain under assessment. Officials on both sides have confirmed their respective actions. The ongoing exchanges challenge the stability of the previously established agreement intended to halt the conflict. Developments continue as international observers monitor the situation.
