Mariners are advised to alter plans and avoid hazardous conditions due to a Gale Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Wakefield VA. The warning is in effect for coastal waters from Parramore Island to Cape Charles Light, Virginia, out 20 nautical miles, and coastal waters from Cape Charles Light to the Virginia-North Carolina border out 20 nautical miles.
The Gale Warning is active from 9:41 PM EDT on Thursday, September 24, until 10:00 PM EDT on Friday, September 25. Northeast winds are expected to reach 25 to 35 knots, with gusts up to 45 knots. Seas will be significantly hazardous, ranging from 10 to 15 feet.
These strong winds and high seas could capsize or damage vessels and severely reduce visibility. The NWS strongly advises mariners to remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure their vessels for these dangerous conditions.
