Apprenticeships Combine Training and Paid Work

Why it matters locally: North Carolina has several active apprenticeship programs across various industries, including advanced manufacturing, healthcare, and IT, which contribute to workforce development and skill building within the state. The state government, through organizations like ApprenticeshipNC, actively promotes and supports these programs for both employers and individuals.

Apprenticeships integrate training with paid employment, allowing individuals to develop vocational skills. Employers hire and pay apprentices, who divide their time between on-the-job work and structured learning. This system provides apprentices with direct experience in a chosen field while also receiving formal instruction. The employer manages the payment of wages to the apprentice throughout the duration of the program.
