Liberty school board approves $72 million budget without raising taxes

The Liberty Central School District Board of Education approved a $72 million budget for 2026-27 that increases spending by 5.14 percent while keeping the tax levy flat at $17.76 million.

The $3.5 million spending increase funds current student programs and covers rising costs for health care, transportation and contractual obligations. The district expects about $1.1 million more in state aid based on the governor's budget proposal.

Superintendent Dr. Patrick Sullivan will present the budget to the Liberty Town Board at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 4, at the Senior Citizen Center, 119 N. Main St.

The public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, in the High School auditorium, 125 Buckley St. The district will livestream the hearing at https://tinyurl.com/LCSD26-27budgethearing.

Sullivan hosts an all-day informational session from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, in the high school media center. On Thursday, May 14, at 5 p.m., the district holds "Budget, Dinner and a Concert" in the media center, with pizza and the High School Honors Concert at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

Sullivan will discuss the budget over breakfast Friday, May 15, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the New Munson Diner, 12 Lake St. Residents can bring questions to the session.
