Strong Thunderstorm Warning for Wayne County, Gusts Up To 40 MPH

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Wayne County regarding a strong thunderstorm. The National Weather Service in Jackson, KY, reports that at 8:16 PM EDT, Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm over Zula, approximately 10 miles southwest of Monticello, moving east at 15 mph.

This storm is expected to bring wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-sized hail. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is also possible.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, which may lead to localized flooding. Residents are advised not to drive vehicles through flooded roadways.

The affected locations include Slickford, Susie, Zula, Hidalgo, Powersburg, Sunnybrook, Cooper, and Alpha.

This Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and expires at 8:45 PM EDT tonight, September 21, 2026. If outdoors, residents in the affected areas should consider seeking shelter inside a building.
