Drivers in Eastern Kentucky should exercise extreme caution this morning due to dense fog. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, KY, has issued a Special Weather Statement effective until 9:15 AM EDT today, September 30, 2026. This advisory impacts a wide area including Fleming, Montgomery, Bath, Rowan, Estill, Powell, Menifee, Rockcastle, Jackson, Pulaski, Laurel, Wayne, McCreary, Whitley, Knox, Bell, Harlan, Elliott, Morgan, Johnson, Wolfe, Magoffin, Floyd, Lee, Breathitt, Knott, Owsley, Perry, Clay, Leslie, Letcher, Martin, and Pike counties.
Clear skies and light winds have led to fog development, particularly in valleys, along rivers, larger creeks, and area lakes. Visibility in some areas may be reduced to a quarter of a mile or less. The NWS expects the fog to begin clearing by 9:00 AM EDT.
Travelers are advised to slow down, be prepared for sudden changes in visibility, and allow ample space between vehicles. Use low beam headlights and allocate extra time for travel to reach destinations safely.
