Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Montgomery; Prepare for Hazards

MONTGOMERY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Montgomery by the National Weather Service (NWS) Birmingham AL, effective immediately as of October 8 at 10:27 PM CDT. This warning indicates severe conditions are imminent, and residents must take immediate action.
All remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Residents are advised to move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive. Peak wind forecasts are between 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Impacts could include damage to unanchored structures, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and elevated roadways are also possible.
A Flood Watch is also in effect for Montgomery, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. This poses a significant threat of moderate flooding, potentially leading to evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to do so may result in serious injury or loss of life.
Additionally, conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats are urged to relocate to safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be prepared to shelter quickly if one is issued. Tornado impacts could include significant damage to structures and widespread power loss.
