Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TIPS Preparedness is the key to protecting yourself, your family, and your property from the impacts of emergencies and disasters. Montgomery County residents are encouraged to take steps now to be prepared for a variety of potential emergencies, including severe weather events, power outages, and public health emergencies. CREATE A FAMILY EMERGENCY PLAN: Discuss with your family what to do in case of an emergency. Identify evacuation routes from your home and community. Designate an out-of-state contact person whom family members can check in with. Practice your plan regularly. ASSEMBLE AN EMERGENCY SUPPLY KIT: Your kit should include items such as water, non-perishable food, a flashlight, batteries, a first-aid kit, medications, a multi-tool, sanitation and personal hygiene items, copies of important documents, and cash. STAY INFORMED: Monitor local news and weather alerts. Sign up for emergency notifications from Montgomery County. Understand the types of disasters that are most likely to occur in your area and learn how to respond to them. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS FOR MONTGOMERY COUNTY: Montgomery County is prone to severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes. It is crucial to have a plan for sheltering in place or evacuating based on the severity of the threat. Be aware of local evacuation routes and shelter locations.
