Freeze Watch Issued for San Luis Valley: Protect Tender Plants
A Freeze Watch has been issued for the San Luis Valley from late Wednesday night through Thursday morning, with sub-freezing temperatures as low as 27 degrees Fahrenheit possible, prompting residents to protect tender plants and outdoor plumbing.
Residents in the San Luis Valley are advised to take immediate action to protect tender plants from sub-freezing temperatures. A Freeze Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pueblo, CO, effective from late Wednesday night, October 14, through Thursday morning, October 15.
The affected areas include Del Norte Vicinity/Northern San Luis Valley Below 8500 Ft, Alamosa Vicinity/Central San Luis Valley Below 8500 Ft, and the Southern San Luis Valley. Temperatures as low as 27 degrees Fahrenheit are possible, according to the NWS.
These conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Unprotected outdoor plumbing may also be damaged. The NWS indicates that a killing freeze is possible, which could bring an end to the growing season across the San Luis Valley.
The Freeze Watch is in effect from October 13 at 1:06 AM MDT until October 15 at 8:00 AM MDT. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
