UA Hits Record 42,360 Students, Boosting Alabama Workforce

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama announced a landmark fall 2025 enrollment of 42,360 students, marking a 3.7% increase from the prior year and the fifth consecutive record-breaking semester. This surge underscores UA's deepening commitment to Alabama, with in-state enrollment rising more than 4%, including a 30.8% jump in Early College programs that funnel high schoolers directly into college coursework. Students hail from all 67 Alabama counties, every U.S. state, the District of Columbia and 99 countries, with women comprising 57.8% of the total and 42.4% classified as legal Alabama residents.

The incoming freshman class sets a new benchmark with 362 National Merit Scholars, a 37.1% leap that positions UA as a magnet for high-achievers nationwide. The Graduate School also hit a peak, exceeding 6,200 students, while health fields boomed: nursing enrollment climbed 15%, and the College of Community Health Sciences grew 10.8%. Over two decades, UA's headcount has nearly doubled from 21,835 in 2005, awarding more than 9,500 degrees last year alone to fuel Alabama's economy.

This momentum aligns with the University of Alabama System's broader push, though systemwide figures emphasize UA's flagship dominance amid expanded online offerings. UA President Stuart Bell hailed the numbers as proof of the university's leadership, stating they affirm 'our momentum to lead' in serving the state's workforce needs. As Alabama eyes economic growth, UA's record haul promises a pipeline of skilled graduates from Tuscaloosa to the Tennessee Valley.
