Southland Transportation, a member of the STA Family of brands based in Calgary, AB Canada is once again supporting the Los Amigos Project, a long running initiative that delivers much needed emergency and transportation vehicles to underserved communities in Mexico. Led by Alberta Rotary Clubs, the Los Amigos Project donated more than 60 decommissioned emergency vehicles—including fire trucks, ambulances, and handi-buses—since 2011. These refurbished vehicles provide essential services such as fire protection, medical transport, and accessible transportation in communities that may otherwise lack critical resources. Southland Transportation contributed two handi‑buses to the 2026 convoy—doubling its typical annual donation—and has supported the Los Amigos Project for several years by providing accessible vehicles that can continue to serve students and individuals with disabilities long after their service life in Canada. “At STA, we believe strongly in giving back in meaningful, practical ways,” said Arjan Slagmolen, Regional Director of Southern Alberta. “Donating vehicles through the Los Amigos Project allows our equipment to keep making a difference by supporting safety, mobility, and opportunity in communities that truly need it.” The Los Amigos Project is made possible by months of preparation, fundraising, and volunteer effort. Rotary members and volunteer drivers spend nearly a year refurbishing each vehicle, often working with local colleges to ensure they are road-ready and safe for long term use. We are honored to support this impactful initiative and help extend the life—and purpose—of our vehicles far beyond our borders. "The Packet for the meeting can be found at Your Government / City Council / Agenda’s and Packets"
"Looking for a way to get more involved in shaping Victoria’s future? The City of Victoria is now accepting applications for an alternate seat on the Victoria Planning Commission. The Planning Commission plays an important role in guiding how our community grows and develops. Members review site plans, subdivisions, zoning requests, and other land use topics, then provide recommendations to the City Council. It is a great opportunity to learn more about how decisions are made and to help ensure development aligns with Victoria’s long-term vision. Alternates attend meetings regularly and step in to vote when a regular member is absent. If a full seat becomes available, alternates may also have the opportunity to move into that role. This is a flexible way to get started in local government while still making a meaningful impact. Meetings are typically held on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. While alternates only vote when needed, they are expected to attend meetings, stay engaged in discussions, and review materials in advance. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old and a resident of Victoria. Applications will be accepted through 4:30 p.m. on April 30, 2026. The City Council will interview candidates during a workshop on Monday, May 11, 2026, and applicants will be contacted with additional details. If you have ever been curious about how development decisions are made or are looking for a way to serve your community, this is a great place to start.
