A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Modoc County, excluding the Surprise Valley, from 2:48 AM PDT until 7:00 PM PDT today, October 9.

The National Weather Service in Medford, OR, issued the warning due to critical fire weather conditions that could lead to rapid fire spread. This includes areas such as Newell, Canby, Alturas, and Adin.

West winds are expected to be 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. Minimum afternoon humidity will be around 15 percent. These conditions create an environment where any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

Residents are advised to follow all fire restrictions. Links to local fire restrictions and county emergency sign-up forms can be found at weather.gov/medford/wildfire. It is crucial to have multiple ways to receive information from authorities.

Familiarize yourself with your emergency plan and listen to emergency services. More information on planning can be found at ready.gov/plan. The National Weather Service emphasizes: One less spark, one less wildfire.
