MOBILE, AL — A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Mobile Central, including Mobile, Prichard, and Theodore, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL at 6:53 PM CDT on October 9. This is an immediate and extreme threat. Residents in surge-prone areas should complete flood preparations and ordered evacuations now. Evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding.

Life-threatening storm surge of 2-4 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Potential impacts from the main surge event are unfolding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside.

Wind speeds are forecast between 25-35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph, posing a potential for limited damage. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. The NWS advises planning for hazardous wind of equivalent tropical storm force and completing property protection efforts as soon as possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Major flooding from heavy rain is possible, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

For evacuation and shelter information, contact Mobile County EMA at 251-460-8000 or visit mobilecountyema.gov. For storm surge threat graphics and other storm impacts, visit weather.gov/mob. This warning is effective until 3:00 AM UTC on October 10.
