High Surf Warning: Stay Out of Water, Dangerous Waves 10-15 Feet
A High Surf Warning is in effect until 7:00 AM CDT today, October 10, for coastal areas of Alabama and Florida, with dangerous 10-15 foot waves and a high risk of rip currents. Stay out of the water and away from coastal structures.
Residents and visitors in Mobile Coastal, Baldwin Coastal, Escambia Coastal, Santa Rosa Coastal, and Okaloosa Coastal counties are advised to remain out of the water due to a High Surf Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. This warning is in effect until 7:00 AM CDT today, October 10.
Dangerously large breaking waves of 10 to 15 feet are expected in the surf zone. The NWS also warns of a High Rip Current Risk through Sunday afternoon, with dangerous rip currents present.
Impacts include breaking waves capable of sweeping individuals off jetties and docks into dangerous seas. Life-threatening swimming conditions and significant beach erosion are anticipated. Rip currents can carry even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper waters.
All individuals should remain out of the water. Stay off jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
