A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Mobile Coastal, including Grand Bay, Dauphin Island, and Bayou La Batre, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL, on October 8 at 9:57 PM CDT. Residents in these areas must urgently complete preparations and move to safe shelter.
Life-threatening wind equivalent to a Category 1 or 2 hurricane is expected, with peak gusts up to 65 mph and the potential for winds between 74 to 110 mph. Tropical Storm force winds are anticipated from early Friday afternoon until early Saturday morning. Extensive damage to sturdy buildings, mobile homes, trees, and power infrastructure is possible, rendering some areas uninhabitable for weeks.
Life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed immediately. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Significant inundation and major beach erosion are expected, with potential damage to coastal structures and roads.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain possible, leading to extensive flooding. Rivers, streams, and canals may overflow, causing major evacuations and rescues. Floodwaters can enter many structures, making driving dangerous. For evacuation and shelter information, contact Mobile County EMA at 251-460-8000 or visit mobilecountyema.gov.
