A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Mobile Central, including Mobile, Prichard, and Theodore, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL issued this warning at 4:04 PM CDT today, October 8th, and it remains in effect until 12:15 AM CDT on October 9th. Residents must take immediate action.

Life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts should be completed immediately as driving conditions will become unsafe. Leave if evacuation orders are given to avoid being cut off. Potential for wind between 74 to 110 mph is forecast, with gusts up to 55 mph expected sooner. Plan for life-threatening wind of equivalent Category 1 or 2 hurricane force. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive.

Extensive damage is anticipated from both wind and storm surge, including structural damage, widespread power outages, and impassable roads. Major flooding from 2-4 inches of rain is also expected; heed all flood watches and warnings. For evacuation and shelter information, contact Mobile County EMA at 251-460-8000 or visit mobilecountyema.gov. Further storm impact graphics are available at www.weather.gov/mob.
