Residents in the Bitterroot/Sapphire Mountains and Potomac/Seeley Lake Region should prepare for significant snowfall and difficult travel conditions beginning Saturday evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Missoula, MT, has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, effective from 6 PM Saturday, October 9, 2026, until 6 AM MDT Monday, October 12, 2026.
The advisory forecasts total snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches, with winds gusting as high as 40 mph. Areas specifically impacted include I-90 East from Missoula to Bearmouth, Highway 83 from Seeley Lake to Condon, Highway 200 from Bonner to Greenough, Lolo Pass, and Highway 93 from Sula to Lost Trail Pass.
Travel is expected to be very difficult. The NWS advises slowing down and using caution while traveling. For current road conditions, call 511. Be prepared for slippery roads. When outside, exercise extreme caution on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways, as these surfaces could be icy and increase the risk of falls. Backcountry travel will also be challenging.
