Residents and visitors in Lake and Porter Counties are advised to remain out of Lake Michigan waters due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago IL. The statement is effective immediately, beginning September 21 at 10:04 PM CDT, and remains in effect until Wednesday, September 23 at 1:00 PM CDT.

High wave action and dangerous currents are expected, with waves anticipated to reach 3 to 6 feet. These conditions will create life-threatening swimming hazards, particularly for those with limited swimming experience.

The NWS specifically warns against entering the water. Furthermore, the public should not venture out onto piers, jetties, breakwalls, or any other shoreline structures during this period.

This advisory covers all Lake Michigan beaches within Lake and Porter Counties. The NWS emphasizes these precautions to ensure public safety.
