COMBE Volunteers Transform Camp Combe Through Annual Service Day

This week, we extend our sincere gratitude to COMBE for their continued partnership and commitment through their annual COMBE Day at YMCA Camp Combe. Held this past Tuesday, their team came together with energy and purpose to help prepare our camp for the children and families we serve throughout the year. COMBE Day is more than a day of service—it’s a reflection of shared values and a collective commitment to strengthening our community. Thanks to the dedication of the COMBE team, Camp Combe continues to be a safe, welcoming, and inspiring space where young people can explore, grow, and build lasting connections. Throughout the day, volunteers completed a wide range of impactful projects across camp. Their work included trail maintenance, fence installation and painting, planting and weeding, building picnic tables and swings, improving cabins, preparing arts and crafts materials, and enhancing shared community spaces. Each project plays an important role in creating an environment where every camper can feel a sense of belonging and opportunity. We would also like to recognize the leadership and involvement of two of our Board members. Christina DiBella of COMBE has been instrumental in organizing this event and continues to lead by example through her ongoing participation. We are also grateful to Patty Ferris, one of our newer Board members, for joining the effort and contributing her time and care to painting and improvements across camp. Partnerships like this demonstrate the power of community coming together to support one another. We are deeply thankful for COMBE and for leaders who help bring our mission to life each day. Together, we are building stronger communities—for a better us.® Images below will automatically change—tap any image to pause and swipe through manually.

YMCA Camp Nominated as Best Place for Kids

We’re honored to share that the YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester has been nominated as one of the best places to take children in Westchester County. This recognition is a reflection of the caring community we’ve built together—one where children are supported, encouraged, and inspired every day. From early childhood programs to after-school enrichment and summer camp experiences, our Y is a place where young people can grow with confidence, build meaningful relationships, and discover their full potential. At the heart of everything we do are our core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. These values guide our staff, shape our programs, and help create a welcoming environment where every child feels they belong. This nomination is not just about our programs—it’s about the families, staff, and community partners who make our work possible. We invite you to help us continue this meaningful work by casting your vote. Your support helps shine a light on the positive impact we’re making together and allows us to reach even more children and families across our region. Cast Your Vote Thank you for being a part of our YMCA community. Your continued support and belief in our mission allow us to strengthen our community and ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

YMCA Thanks Volunteer New York and Mastercard

We are proud to recognize and thank the dedicated partners who continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children and families we serve. We are especially grateful to Volunteer New York! and the team from Mastercard for generously giving their time and energy to create “Feelings Kits” for our programs. These thoughtfully assembled kits are more than just supplies—they are tools that help nurture emotional growth, strengthen communication, and support each child’s well-being. Through creative materials and guided activities, the Feelings Kits will help children build literacy skills while also learning how to express their emotions in healthy, constructive ways. By encouraging open dialogue and self-awareness, these resources create opportunities for meaningful conversations between children, caregivers, and staff. This kind of support is essential in helping young people feel seen, heard, and valued. This partnership reflects the very best of our shared values. It is a true example of caring for one another, taking responsibility for the well-being of our community, and showing respect for the unique experiences and emotions of every child. When community members come together with a shared purpose, the impact reaches far beyond a single moment—it helps build a stronger, more connected community for all. We know that it takes a village to support youth development, and we are deeply appreciative of partners like Volunteer New York! and Mastercard who step forward to be part of that village. Their generosity and commitment help ensure that our programs remain welcoming, supportive spaces where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. Thank you for standing with us and for helping to create brighter, more compassionate futures for the children and families we serve.

PVMS: May Events, Teacher Appreciation, and Volunteer Opportunities

"Dear PVMS Families, This school year is moving by so quickly and one would have never thought the mounds of snow from this winter would have ever melted away.  Fortunately they have and although mother nature continues to give us chilly temperatures at times we have been provided some summer-like temperatures as well and a little bit of rainfall to bring out some vegetation and flowers.  This has been wonderful for letting our students outside for recess and after school activities.  The month of May is full of events and activities as we kick off the fourth quarter. We are celebrating teacher appreciation week from May 4th – 8th!  Please join me in thanking all of our teachers for all that they do on a daily basis. Teachers  make a positive impact on our student’s lives and inspire them to become lifelong learners. Thank you to the PTA for recognizing our teachers and celebrating the impact they have. Our PTA is still looking for community volunteers who can help out in our schools that week.  We have an amazing Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week planned! We need volunteers to help us make sure it happens!  Please volunteer here: I want to thank all of those that were involved with our annual Spring Fling that took place on Thursday, April 23rd from 5-7 PM.  We had a wonderful turnout with a 90s theme.  Our student council led by Ms. Diaz and Mrs. Hernandez (Turner) did a phenomenal job.   Please take a look at pictures from the event. New York State Assessments will continue to take place over the course of May.  Please take a look at the following dates: New York State Assessment dates: English Language Arts (5th – 8th) – Thursday 4/30/26 and Friday 5/1/26 Mathematics (5th – 8th) – Wednesday 5/6/26  and Thursday 5/7/26 Science (8th) – Monday 5/11/26  Science (5th) – Tuesday 5/12/26 Please remind your children to come prepared with charged chromebooks (CBT – computer based testing), an independent reading book and sharpened #2 pencils, and calculators (mathematics) for certain grade levels on these days.  Students have worked so hard this year and it is an opportunity to show their skills and apply what they have learned.  Please note that these assessments are untimed, do not impact teacher APPR, and are a great opportunity to practice standardized assessments that students will need to take in high school.  Good luck to all! Please note that our eighth graders attending the Washington DC trip will be off campus starting on Wednesday, May 13th through Friday, May 15th.  All other eighth graders who are not on the trip are expected to attend school and will follow a schedule meeting their daily instructional needs. The Middle School Career Fair will take place on Thursday, May 21st from 8:00-12:00PM.  This event provides our middle school students with the opportunity to explore various professions, learn about different career paths, and gain valuable insights from experienced professionals like you. Your participation would be incredibly meaningful in helping students connect their education to real-world opportunities. We are looking for community members who can: Share their career journey and experiences Provide insight into the skills needed for success in their field Answer student questions and inspire the next generation Event Details: Date: Thursday, May 21st Location: Putnam Valley High School Wellness Center Time: 8:00 am- 12:00 pm If you are interested in participating, please fill out this form. Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a lasting impact on our students. We truly appreciate your time and expertise! As we continue into the fourth quarter, it is vital for our students to stay focused on their efforts toward their academic progress.  Please note that some of our seventh and eighth graders will be taking final exams in June and that these will be summative measures for teachers to assess their progress for the entire year.  In addition, we still have our Algebra I Regents, and our Checkpoint A exam for those in eighth grade Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.  We are hopeful that our students continue to apply themselves, stay focused, and take advantage of opportunities that will strengthen their overall abilities.  I want to thank all of those families of students who sat to take the NYS English Language Arts assessments, NYS Mathematics assessments, and NYS science assessments.  We use this data to help drive instruction and as a multiple measure for supports that students may need.  These are always vital opportunities for students to show their knowledge and prepare for high school Regents exams that they will be taking in the near future, especially for our seventh and eighth graders. End of Year Details We are still in the process of organizing end of the year details for our seventh and eighth grade final exams.  These will take place during our school day.  Our Eighth Grade Moving Up Ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24th in our High School Performing Arts Center at 5:00PM.  That same evening we will have a Moving Up Dance at Cortlandt Colonial at 7:00PM.  Electronic communications with this information will be sent out. PVES Update: May Newsletter Highlights Student Progress, Upcoming Events & Budget Vote

"Dear PVES Families, Happy month of May! Our students are prepared and ready for the busy calendar over the next two months of the school year, and we are so proud of their progress and growth. Thank you for continuing to emphasize organization, good homework habits, and of course, strong attendance and punctuality throughout the final quarter of the year. We continue to teach new concepts and prepare for the year ahead. If you have any questions about your child’s Progress Report that was mailed last week, please be sure to contact your child’s teacher. You can set up a phone call, virtual meeting, or in-person conference. We always want to communicate well and work closely with you as we support your child’s growth. This week (May 4th through May 8th) is Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week! We are so fortunate at PVES to have such a talented staff and faculty, and we thank the PTA for making this week so special for all. Please take a moment to reach out to your child’s teachers and support staff. They care so very much about your children! Our third and fourth grade students will be taking their NYS Math tests this week. As always, our students are extremely well prepared for these exams, and this is an opportunity to show off their great math thinking. Thank you to all of our K-4 teachers for supporting such a strong math foundation. Please be sure to mark your calendars for our District Budget Vote on Tuesday, May 19th. Voting will take place from 6 AM to 9 PM in our Elementary School Cafeteria. Our Student Vote will be taking place on that day as well. When our PVES students accompany their parents to vote, they will be able to help select our facility dog Mason’s middle name! This is a wonderful and engaging opportunity for children to learn about the power of the individual vote! Please plan to join us for our Planting Party on Tuesday, May 19th, from 4:00 PM to 5:30 on our elementary campus. This was such a joyful and beautiful event last year. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. McCarty by emailing her at [email protected]. This is not a drop-off event, and all are welcome! Thank you all for your support! As we approach Mother’s Day, we would like to wish all of our moms, guardians, grandmothers, and loving caregivers and role models the happiest of days! You play such an integral part in your child’s growth and success, and we hope you know how loved and appreciated you are each and every day! Have a wonderful week ahead. Please check the calendar scroll and attachments carefully for all upcoming concerts and events. PVES is a busy place! Sincerely, Dr. Margaret Podesta Principal"
