All dogs in New York State aged four months and older must be licensed, according to the Town of North Hempstead Clerk Services Portal. The Town Clerk's office issues these licenses, which are valid for one year.
To obtain a dog license, owners must provide a current rabies certificate. If the dog has been spayed or neutered, a certificate from a veterinarian is also required.
License fees are $8.00 for spayed or neutered dogs and $18.00 for those not altered. A senior citizen discount is available for residents aged 65 and older, reducing the fee to $4.00 for spayed or neutered dogs and $9.00 for others.
Applications can be submitted online, by mail, or by downloading the application form from the Town of North Hempstead website. These requirements are based on New York State Agriculture and Markets Law, Article 7.
