Tropical Storm Warning for Miller County: Prepare for Severe Weather
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Miller County, issued by NWS Tallahassee, with immediate action advised for hazardous winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes until 4:30 PM EDT today.
MILLER COUNTY, GA – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Miller County, effective immediately from 8:28 AM EDT today, October 9, 2026, until 4:30 PM EDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL, has issued this warning, urging residents in Miller County and Colquitt to complete all preparations now.
The primary threats include wind, flooding rain, and tornadoes. Winds are forecast to be 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Residents should plan for hazardous wind, secure outdoor property, and prepare for limited wind damage. Damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and power outages.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with additional rainfall of 3-6 inches expected, and locally higher amounts. This poses a threat of major flooding, and evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action can result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and roads may become impassable.
The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Residents in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures.
