Rapper William Leonard Roberts, known as Rick Ross, faces felony charges after allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend. Miami Beach police arrested Roberts on Thursday morning following his surrender to authorities.
Roberts is charged with one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanor count of battery. The accusations come from Jazzma Kendrick, who filed a police report on September 29 detailing an alleged assault that occurred in August. Kendrick reportedly posted about the abuse on social media before filing the report.
According to the arrest report, Roberts became angry after Kendrick was tagged in an Instagram photo. Kendrick claims Roberts accused her of lying, slapped her, and followed her around their home. The report states Roberts accused Kendrick of being involved with a male friend and struck her each time she denied it. Kendrick alleges Roberts choked her by twisting her hoodie, restricting her breathing. She also reported Roberts grabbed her ponytail, slammed her into a wall, and left her with a "busted lip." He then pushed her to the bathroom floor and attempted to spray her with a showerhead before she escaped.
Roberts' attorney, Bradley Horenstein, denied the allegations. "All I can say is that the allegations are false. He’s innocent. Everything is going to come out," Horenstein said. "We just ask that you allow the process to play out before rushing to judgment, because the truth will come in."
Roberts was released on a $5,000 bond and ordered to stay away from Kendrick, including through third parties or social media. His arraignment is scheduled for October 22.
