Palmetto Bay residents can dispose of unwanted items at the upcoming fall drive-thru recycling event. The community event offers a convenient way to recycle electronics, prescription drugs, household hazardous waste and more without leaving a vehicle.
The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on a date to be announced. Residents and businesses within Palmetto Bay are eligible. Vehicles may not line up before 10 a.m.; all drop-offs must occur within the designated event hours.
Participants will enter the Village Hall parking lot from Hibiscus Street. Drivers will follow a route to drop off clothes donations first, followed by paint and aerosol cans, then electronics, batteries and light bulbs. Paper shredding services and recycling for musical sheets and instruments will also be available. The route concludes with plastic bag recycling and event giveaways before exiting onto Franjo Road.
Accepted items include paper products, batteries, electronic waste such as computers and televisions, paint-related materials and specific plastic bags like produce and store bags. Expired or unwanted prescription drugs, retired American flags and gently used clothing are also welcomed. Ammunition, food, glass, metal, undergarments and medical waste will not be accepted.
Miami-Dade County offers two Home Chemical Collection Centers for those unable to attend. The West-Dade center is at 8831 NW 58th Street, and the South-Dade center is at 23707 SW 97th Ave. Both are open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information on the Palmetto Bay recycling event, residents can contact Andrea Candelaria, Sustainability and Resiliency Planner, at 305-259-1238.
