Mets First Baseman Jared Young Hospitalized After On-Field Collision at Citi Field
New York Mets first baseman Jared Young was taken off the field on a stretcher Thursday night after a collision at Citi Field during a game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Young sustained a knee to the head from Phillies pitcher Nolan McLean in the sixth inning. The incident occurred as both players attempted to cover first base after Justin Crawford hit a slow ball.
Young remained on the ground for approximately five minutes. Paramedics immobilized his neck before placing him on a stretcher. He gave a thumbs-up to the crowd as medical personnel removed him from the field, indicating he was conscious.
Young showed concussion symptoms Thursday night while hospitalized, though an earlier CT scan came back negative. Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor described the scene as "scary." Interim manager Andy Green called it "terrifying." Phillies player Justin Crawford, who hit the ball that led to the collision, expressed his concern, stating, "I didn't see it happen at all, just because I was running down the line. But, oh, my God, that was a scary scene. Luckily, he was moving around, moving his eyes."
The Mets lost the game 3-0 to the Phillies. Young's condition and recovery timeline remain under observation.
