Miami Gardens residents may find their favorite fast-casual Mexican restaurant, Chipotle, venturing into music with an original song featuring instruments made from vegetables. The track, titled “From Ground to Sound,” was recorded in collaboration with the London Vegetable Orchestra.
The song highlights Chipotle’s commitment to real ingredients by transforming them into sound. Instruments include flutes made from corn, jalapeño trumpets, a bell pepper horn, an avocado pit, lettuce percussion, and an onion bass.
Chipotle and the London Vegetable Orchestra collaborated for three months, experimenting with vegetable combinations for specific musical notes. Fernando Machado, chief brand officer at Chipotle, stated the goal was to create a track “impossible to separate from Chipotle itself,” with instruments, sound, and story rooted in the brand’s operations.
The London Vegetable Orchestra, a five-member ensemble formed in 2010, is the United Kingdom’s only group offering “Home Grown” entertainment. Patrick Johns of the orchestra noted the unique challenge of working with vegetables, stating, “no two vegetables ‘behave exactly the same way.’” The song was first teased in Chipotle’s “100 Creators” ads in August and is now available on Spotify and Apple Music. A companion film is available on YouTube.
