Aventura officials have activated a lightning warning system across all city parks to enhance public safety. The system, which includes Founders Park, neighborhood green spaces, ACES, and the Community Recreation Center, uses siren or horn blasts to alert people to potential lightning threats.
One long horn blast signifies a possible lightning strike. Upon hearing this signal, all city parks will close, and patrons must exit immediately. Those outdoors at ACES or the Community Recreation Center should seek shelter inside.
Three short horn blasts indicate the threat has passed, signaling an “all clear.” Parks will then reopen, and outdoor activities may resume.
The City of Aventura implemented the system to proactively address severe weather dangers common in South Florida. Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the warning signals and procedures.
