Miami Beach Police are actively searching for 29-year-old Dasheona Ford in connection with a series of phone and money thefts that occurred outside local nightclubs. This comes after 48-year-old Reynoso Osias was arrested earlier this week for his alleged role as the getaway driver in these incidents. Osias faces several charges, including kidnapping and conspiracy to commit strong-arm robbery, and remains behind bars.
The investigation began on June 14 following a strong-arm robbery near 11th Street and Washington Avenue. A victim reported that Ford approached him as he left a nightclub, took his phone, and then fled in a waiting taxi. Surveillance video from minutes later showed Ford exiting the same taxi after stealing another person’s phone. Detectives identified Osias as the driver of this getaway vehicle.
Two weeks later, on June 28, another victim entered Osias’ taxi and subsequently had his cellphone stolen, with money later withdrawn from his account. Miami Beach Spokesperson Christopher Bess described the duo’s alleged method: "They staked out outside of nightclubs, preyed on vulnerable and intoxicated individuals. In one case, kidnapping one of those individuals, luring him inside the taxi cab, holding him down and breaking into his phone just to conduct fraudulent transactions." The victim told investigators he did not remember entering the car or asking for a taxi.
Officers located Osias operating the same taxi in the 700 block of Washington Avenue on Tuesday, October 1, and took him into custody. Body camera footage captured the arrest. Police reported finding eight iPhones in a plastic bag under the driver’s seat of Osias’ taxi. On Wednesday, October 2, Osias appeared in bond court, where a judge found probable cause for his charges. Police believe more victims exist and urge anyone with information to contact the Miami Beach Police Department.
