Ellsworth Teen Honored for Heroic Winter Crash Rescue

Jaxon Mansfield of Ellsworth received the Citizen Award of Merit from the city and Fire Department on April 20 for his response to a March 20 motor vehicle rollover.

Mansfield's vehicle flipped onto its side in a swamp during winter weather and moderate snow. After escaping the vehicle, he called 911 and gave dispatchers his precise location and details about an injured family member. His information helped first responders navigate hazardous road conditions to rescue his mother.

Captain Freedman of the Ellsworth Fire Department presented the award, citing Mansfield's composure and quick thinking during the incident.
