Strong Thunderstorms Approaching: Seek Shelter Immediately

Residents in Coweta, Fayette, Clayton, Spalding, Henry, Troup, Meriwether, Pike, and Upson counties should seek shelter immediately due to a line of strong thunderstorms moving southeast at 20 mph.

The National Weather Service Peachtree City issued a Special Weather Statement today, September 19, at 8:22 PM EDT. The alert is effective until 8:45 PM UTC.

The storm, indicated by radar, brings hazards including winds up to 40 mph, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and heavy rain. Locations impacted include LaGrange, Griffin, Zebulon, Greenville, Hampton, Senoia, and others within the affected counties.

Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of light, unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary street flooding, especially in poor drainage areas. People outdoors must seek shelter immediately. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Motorists should slow down and be prepared for possible loss of control due to hydroplaning.
