Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Meriwether County, Act Now to Prepare
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Meriwether County, including Greenville, with warnings for hazardous winds, moderate flooding, and potential tornadoes; residents must prepare immediately.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Meriwether County, including Greenville, effective October 9 at 4:43 AM EDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City, GA, advises residents to immediately begin preparations as hazardous conditions are expected.
Strong winds are anticipated, with forecasts of 10-20 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. There is potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Residents should secure outdoor objects like porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect downed tree limbs, potential road blockages from debris, and scattered power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain predicted, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is a significant threat, potentially leading to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and floodwaters could impact structures and roads. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately.
Additionally, conditions are favorable for the development of several tornadoes, some of which could be intense. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, including loss of power and communications. If a tornado warning is issued, be prepared to shelter quickly. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should plan to relocate to safer shelter.
This Tropical Storm Watch will remain in effect until October 9 at 12:45 PM UTC. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes for family emergency plans and weather.gov/atlanta for local weather updates.
