A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Meriwether County, including Greenville, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA, effective October 8 at 11:17 AM EDT. Tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours. Residents should complete all preparations now.

Peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are forecast, with potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. This could lead to damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs, some downed trees, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible.

Rainfall of 1-3 inches, with locally higher amounts, is expected, posing a moderate flooding risk. Emergency plans should include potential evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes and weather.gov/atlanta.
