New playground equipment will be installed at Central Park later this summer. The Sandusky City Commission approved the purchase and installation of the equipment at its April 27, 2026 meeting."We updated the larger playground in Central Park a few years back, and we're excited to now replace the smaller playground that has been in much need of an upgrade" said Chris Mehling, Sandusky's Recreation Project Coordinator. "We look forward to families with young kids being able to use the new equipment."The City will spend up to $59,776.55 for the equipment and installation through GameTime, purchased through the OMNIA Partners cooperative purchasing program. The project is funded through Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. The new equipment includes a PrimeTime Play Structure for children ages 2–5, an ADA-accessible swing set with a tot seat and expression seat, a Duo Spinner, and 2,600 square feet of engineered wood fiber surfacing. An ADA ramp system and border edging will also be installed. DWA Recreation, a subsidiary of GameTime, will handle installation. The existing equipment at Central Park is outdated and due for replacement. The project is part of the City's strategic plan goal to invest in neighborhood improvements that support residents' quality of life.Central Park received another playground structure, basketball court, shaded picnic area, and new sidewalks in 2018. This summer's work builds on that investment.Installation is expected later this summer.
