Dense fog is developing across multiple Eastern Kentucky counties this morning, reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less; drive with extreme caution until 9 AM EDT.
Residents across numerous counties in Eastern Kentucky are advised to exercise extreme caution when driving this morning due to developing dense fog. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, KY, issued a Special Weather Statement at 4:50 AM EDT today, September 28, regarding fog that could significantly reduce visibility.
The affected counties include Fleming, Montgomery, Bath, Rowan, Estill, Powell, Menifee, Rockcastle, Jackson, Pulaski, Laurel, Wayne, McCreary, Whitley, Knox, Bell, Harlan, Elliott, Morgan, Johnson, Wolfe, Magoffin, Floyd, Lee, Breathitt, Knott, Owsley, Perry, Clay, Leslie, Letcher, Martin, and Pike. This fog is primarily forming in valleys, especially along rivers, larger creeks, and area lakes, where visibility could drop to a quarter of a mile or less.
The NWS advises motorists to slow down and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Allow ample space between your vehicle and others. Use low beam headlights and allocate extra time for your commute. The fog is expected to begin clearing by 9:00 AM EDT today.
