Senate Republicans Alter Stance on Presidential War Powers

WASHINGTON D.C. — Senate Republicans shifted their position on restricting President Donald Trump's war powers on Tuesday. The change in stance occurred hours after the president met with and publicly addressed members of his own party regarding an earlier vote on the matter.

Earlier in the day, President Trump declined to participate in a scheduled ceremony to sign into law a housing affordability bill. Both chambers of Congress had overwhelmingly passed the bill. President Trump stated he would not sign the bill until the Senate passes the Safeguarding American Value and Elections (SAVE) Act. This proposed legislation would require voters to present identification and citizenship documentation at polling places.
